Kitty Gets Fur-Ever Home After Being Rescued From Truck Engine

MORENO VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — A kitty has found her fur-ever home after being rescued from a truck engine.

When he started his truck Monday, David Pilgrim says he thought he heard something.

But when he told his wife about it, he says "she thought I was crazy. She didn't hear it."

So the pair kept driving.

And as they were about to get on the freeway for a 70-mile trek from Moreno Valley to Los Angeles, he heard it again.

"When I heard it the second time, yes, yes, I knew absolutely there was something there," he said.

So, he says he and his wife stopped at a Valvoline, where a helpful employee checked under their hood, and there she was.

"It was crazy when I first saw her underneath there running around because it was hot," he said. "I couldn't get to her because she was by the exhaust."

After her rescue, they say, she was in amazingly good health but was just really thirsty.

The family has now adopted her and named her Valvoline or Val for short.

After just a few days in her new home, Val rarely wants to leave Pilgrim's side.

"I think she knows that she's safe," he said. "She found a comfortable place to be instead of underneath the car in the heat."

The employee told the family she's tried to rescue other animals stuck in vehicles but those stories don't normally have happy endings.
