RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — A man who allegedly held a woman hostage after breaking into her home was in custody on Friday.

On Tuesday, Ignatius "Kermit" Ward, who was armed with a knife, ran from officers after he swallowed narcotics, according to the Riverside Police Department.

Police said the Ward then broke into a woman's home, located in the area of Chicago and 7th streets, and held her on the ground while he threatened to physically harm her if she alerted authorities.

Officers searched the area with a police K-9, however Ward was not located.

According to police, he held the victim hostage for several hours before he stole clothing, and forced the victim to drive him to a liquor store in the area.

On Thursday, the Riverside Police Department Metro Team set up surveillance in the area of Olivewood and Panorama in an attempt to locate Ward.
