Kidnap, Hostage Situation In Palmdale Ends With Suspect In Critical Condition

PALMDALE (CBSLA.com)  —   Authorities in Palmdale said a kidnap, hostage situation involving a barricaded suspect Saturday ended with the suspect in critical condition with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Just before 12:30 p.m., Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Special Enforcement Bureau – Special Weapons Team, Emergency Services Detail and K-9 Detail and Crisis Negotiation personnel were all dispatched to the 3100 block of East Avenue S-2 in the city of Palmdale, to assist Palmdale Sherrif's deputies who were called earlier to deal with an armed and barricaded kidnapping suspect who was holding hostages.

After communicating with the suspect for several minutes SWAT says the suspect released all but one of the hostages.

Moments later, officials heard a gunshot coming from inside the residence. Fearing for the safety of the remaining hostage, SWAT members moved in. They found the suspect suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

None of the hostages were harmed.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital. The suspect is currently listed in critical condition.

The investigation is on-going.
