Kardashians Visit Armenia Ahead Of Centennial Anniversary Of Killings

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Kardashians have arrived in the Republic of Armenia for a family vacation ahead of the 100th anniversary of the killings of an estimated 1.5 million Armenians.

Kim Kardashian West and her husband Kanye West, along with their daughter North West, and Khloe Kardashian arrived this week and were greeted by throngs who stood outside their hotel.

Both Kim and Khloe tweeted about their arrival with Kim saying in part: "We're so grateful to be here & start this journey of a lifetime. Thank u everyone who greeted us."

Since arriving, the Kardashians have visited the Mother Armenia statue, which according to Khloe, symbolizes peace through strength. The statue is situated in the capital Yerevan, which is the largest city in Armenia.

The sisters also met with Hovik Abrahamyan on Thursday, who is the country's prime minister, according to E! Online.

The Kardashians' late-father Robert Kardashian was Armenian, and their ancestors emigrated to the U.S. from Armenia in the late 19th century, according to multiple published reports.
