'Pillowcase Rapist' To Live Near Palmdale Following Release

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A Santa Clara judge Friday ruled that a serial rapist will live in unincorporated Palmdale after his release from state custody.

Judge Gilbert Brown said Christopher Evans Hubbart, the so-called "Pillowcase Rapist," will reside in the 20000 block of East Avenue R, however, it was unclear when he would be released.

"This action opens up a 45-day window for public comment which will be considered by the Judge at the next court hearing" on May 21, a news release said.

Hubbart, 62, admitted to raping 40 women in California between 1971 and 1982. More than two dozen of the crimes were committed in the Los Angeles area.

"It's outrageous that an admitted sexual predator with a long history of brutal crimes against women will be released in this community – or any community," Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich said. "He belongs in an institution where he cannot prey upon the public."

"If Hubbart is housed in Los Angeles County, my office will work with law enforcement to make sure that he is closely monitored at all times and that all terms and conditions of his release are strictly enforced," District Attorney Jackie Lacey added.

Last fall, Judge Brown ruled that Hubbart would live at a home in Lake Los Angeles, east of Palmdale.

The announcement was met with community outrage and protests that included Supervisor Antonovich.

The owner of Hubbart's proposed home then withdrew the location from consideration.
