John Wayne Airport Reopens After Bomb Squad Deems Suspicious Thermos Empty

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — A bomb squad reopened the baggage claim area at John Wayne Airport Monday after determining a thermos was empty.

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Department, authorities discovered the "suspicious thermos" around 10:15 p.m. on Sunday located at the opening for the oversized luggage within the airport's lower level baggage claim area.

Passengers and employees were urged to leave through the upper level of the airport as deputies investigated the item.

Roadways leading to the lower level parking areas were closed, including the off-ramp from the southbound 405 Freeway during the investigation.

Around 12:30 a.m., officials determined the bottle was empty. Road were then reopened to the public.

No flights were affected by the airport closure.
