Jewelry, Other Accessories Armed With Safety Features To Ward-Off Attackers
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — From jewelry to mobile apps, there are all kinds of new tools designed to ward-off potential attackers.
Kat Alexander, the founder and CEO of Siren, created a line of statement rings designed to emit a loud alarm, if need be.
"If you activate the top face of the ring, it will activate a 110 decibel alarm," she told CBSNewYork.com.
Alexander was inspired to create the Siren ring after a terrifying encounter.
"I was taking a shortcut and a man crossed my path and began to deliberately walk towards me," she recalled.
Alan Schissel, a security expert, says an unexpected noise (like an alarm) can be a life-saving deterrent. He is the president and CEO of Integrated Security Services.
For those with smartphones, there is a mobile app that records audio and video evidence, as well as calls for help.
Other devices include: a wearable panic button and bracelets loaded with pepper spray.
"The more tools that we bring into our lives to help us with our personal safety are good as long as you don't adopt a false sense of security and get lazy and complacent," Schissel said.
