'Jaws' Breaks World Boysenberry Pie Eating Record By Chowing Down On 14.5 Pounds In 8 Minutes

BUENA PARK (CBSLA.com) —  Joey "Jaws" Chestnut, known as one of the world's top-ranked competitive eaters, ate his way to a world-record Saturday after chowing down on 14.5 pounds of boysenberry pie in eight minutes at Knott's Berry Farm.

Chestnut -- who was defending his boysenberry pie eating title  from 2015 -- won the $4,000 top prize.

According to Knott's, Chestnut won last year by eating 14 pounds of pie in eight minutes.

Chestnut faced fierce competition from number-three-ranked Miki Sudo, who has consumed 104 hard-boiled eggs in eight minutes, and Michelle Lesco, the world's number eight-ranked eater, who has consumed 152 chicken wings in 10 minutes.

Steve Hendry ate 10 pounds of pie to win second place and $1,000. Sudo downed 9.5 pounds for $600 and Lesco ate 9 pounds to win $300. Two men -- Rich LeFevre and Justin Mi ate 8.5 pounds a piece and will share $100 for coming in 5th.

The World Boysenberry Pie-Eating Championship is part of the 16-day Knott's Boysenberry Festival.
