Jansen, Dodgers Avoid Arbitration On $4.3 Million, 1-Year Deal
GLENDALE, Ariz. (CBSLA.com/AP) — Pitcher Kenley Jansen and the Dodgers agreed Tuesday on a $4.3 million, one-year contract, avoiding salary arbitration.
Jansen had 28 saves with a 1.88 ERA last season after he took over the closer's role from Brandon League.
He had been seeking $5.05 million. The Dodgers offered $3.5 million.
Said Jansen: "It's kind of a relief that it's over now. I tried my best not to let it distract me. At the same time, now I can just focus on opening day."
Jansen is one of five closers on the Dodgers spring-training roster, which also includes League, Brian Wilson, Chris Perez and J.P. Howell.
Jansen came up in 2010 with the Dodgers, and has earned 62 career saves, averaging 20 saves per season.
