Thousands Of Janitors Rally In Streets Of LA Over Unfair Labor Practices

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Thousands of janitors rallied Friday in the streets of Los Angeles and other cities, calling for fair labor practices.

Demonstrators took to the streets at 5:00 a.m., holding poster boards on the corner of Westwood and Wilshire boulevards in Westwood.

The janitors are asking for better working conditions, protection from sexual assault of immigrant female janitors, and wages that would allow local families to meet basic needs of living.

At noon, the crowd of janitors will begin the massive march from Grand Park.

The demonstration occurred amid contract negotiations enter the final hours before Saturday's deadline.

Depending on the outcome of the contract, a strike could happen as early as next week.
