Jackson Limo Gives Away 10K Boxed Thanksgiving Meals To Those In Need

HYDE PARK (CBSLA.com) — Jackson Limousines Tuesday gave away approximately 10,000 turkeys and Thanksgiving fixings to families in need.

The E. J. Jackson Foundation began handing out the boxed Thanksgiving meals at 8 a.m. Tuesday at 3669 W. Slauson Avenue in Hyde Park.

Jackson, the owner of Jackson Limousines, was at one point homeless himself. This marks the 32nd year he has handed out food to those in need.

"I'm disabled. I'm on a fixed income and if it wasn't for Mr. Jackson, I wouldn't have a turkey on my table for Thanksgiving," South LA resident Clara Wilkerson said.

Volunteers worked through the night Monday as people camped out to ensure they get a turkey dinner Tuesday morning.

The event is staffed by 300-plus volunteers, many of whom return year after year.

"I enjoy doing it, and I get in the holiday spirit. It just makes me feel good to be helping," TJ Falls said.

Jackson Limousine Service estimates that it has given away more than 415,000 meals over its 32-year history of the event.

"We're all going to get free turkey dinners and they do this every year and it's such a wonderful thing, helping out the community," Michael Goodloe said.
