Is Diddy A Helicopter Parent? Psychologist Weighs In After His Arrest

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A day after his arrest, some are labeling Sean "Diddy" Combs a "helicopter parent" after an alleged confrontation with his son's coach at the University of California, Los Angeles.

The 45-year-old was arrested on suspicion of a number of charges Monday after UCLA campus police say he assaulted one of the football coaches with a kettlebell, which is a type of weight.

Through his representative, Combs released a statement Tuesday that said:

"Any actions taken by Mr. Combs were solely defensive in nature to protect himself and his son. We are confident that once the true facts are revealed the case will be dismissed."

"What happens sometimes when you have a lot of power in the world is that you throw your weight around figuratively and literally," said Judy Rosenberg, a psychologist, who doesn't treat Combs, but has treated many celebrity parents.

On Tuesday, Diddy's son posted an Instagram with the caption: "I thank God for having a father that's always there for me.. Love you pops!"

"I think that parents are well advised to step out of the picture and allow their son or daughter to meet the challenge and use what I call the 'peaceful healing dialogue' to resolve the conflict," Rosenberg said.

Jim Mora, the head football coach for UCLA, said in a statement: "This is an unfortunate incident for all parties involved."

The entire incident was reportedly caught on video, which has yet to be released.
