Irvine Teacher Arrested On Suspicion Of Lewd Conduct With Child

IRVINE (CBSLA.com) — An Orange County teacher is in custody for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a student, according to the Irvine Police Department.

Michael Granger, a 32-year-old English teacher at University High School, was arrested Monday on suspicion of lewd conduct with a child after the alleged victim's parents contacted authorities.

The parents reportedly found a string of suspicious text messages between Granger and their child, according to police.

"Further investigation by the parents into their child's social media accounts revealed a number of concerning interactions including exchanges indicating there had been a physical contact between them," the department said in a statement.

Granger has had contact with the alleged victim since the beginning of the school year, when the student was 15 years old, according to police.

Police and the Irvine Unified School District are investigating, but at this time, there is no indication that there might be other possible victims.

Granger was being held on $100,000 bail.

Anyone with information was asked to contact Det. John Sanders at 949-724-7244.
