The incident between two freshman boys took place during lunch break at 12:37 p.m. at Woodbridge High School, 2 Meadowbrook, according to the Irvine Police Department.

The suspect fled on foot and was located and arrested at his residence nearby about 1:10 p.m.

"The victim is conscious, breathing and was transported to an area hospital with a serious but non-life-threatening injury," Irvine police spokeswoman Farrah Emami said.

The school was not placed on lockdown, and students returned to class at the end of their lunch break.

The motive has not been determined.

"This is an isolated incident and no additional danger is posed to students related to this incident," Emami said.
