Irvine Music Fans Can't Save Beloved Venue, But May Get New One

IRVINE (CBSLA.com)  — When Rom Fox gathered started an online petition to save his beloved Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre, he knew the venue would still be torn down to make way for new housing, but hoped he and music fans would be heard.

His plan may have worked. Nearly 15,000 people signed the petition to save the amphitheater, and they posted a wall of memories on social media. Now a new live venue may soon emerge less than a mile away.

Live Nation, the concert promoting giant, and developer Five Point are planning on proposing a new site for the amphitheater at the Great Park in Irvine.

In an email, Irvine city public affairs director said he is making the proposal a priority, but he says there are some big hurdles.

Issues include funding and the impact of traffic in what is now a sea of homes near the old El Toro Marine Base with thousands of new units still being built.
