Irvine Company Pays Fine Over Pesticide Sales

IRVINE, Calif. (AP) — A Southern California company has agreed to pay a fine after federal regulators accused it of selling unregistered and wrongly branded pesticides to veterinary clinics and laboratories across the U.S.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said Tuesday that Advanced Sterilization Products, based in Irvine, will pay $136,800 in penalties.

Under the law, products used to sterilize equipment for non-human use, such as at vet clinics, are considered pesticides and must be labeled and registered as such.

Advanced Sterilization sold and distributed small, sealed containers of sterilizing hydrogen peroxide to these types of businesses without using proper labels and also sold similar products without registering them with the federal agency.

They also failed to file production reports as required by law.

A message seeking comment was left with Advanced Sterilization Products.
