Irish Setter Stands Watch Over Trapped Canine Buddy For Week In Wilderness

This news made us all kinds of emotional.

It's the story of two canine friends, Tillie and Phoebe, fortunately found a week after running away from their Washington state home. Phoebe, a Basset Hound, got trapped in an old cistern in the woods, but her Irish Setter buddy Tillie didn't desert her.

Every day, Tillie would try to seek help and then head back in the ravine to keep watch over Phoebe at night. Eventually, a nearby resident spotted the dog heading into the ravine and animal rescue volunteers followed her back to Phoebe.

"This is an amazing story about Tillie being a true friend and heroine," a volunteer with Vashon Island Pet Protectors (VIPP) told CBS News. "But it's also about the importance of not giving up."
