iPhone Users Now Able To Register To Be Organ Donor With Just Few Taps

CUPERTINO (CBSLA.com) — With just a few taps, iPhone users are now able to sign up using their device to be an organ, eye and tissue donor.

On Tuesday, Apple announced that, with the release of the iOS 10, iPhone users will be able to become nationally registered donors via the Health app.

Registrations from that app, according to Apple, will be submitted to the National Donate Life Registry.

Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, said he hopes the move will help ease a donor shortage.

He also said Apple co-founder Steve Jobs faced an "excruciating wait" for a liver transplant in 2009.

Jobs passed away in 2011.
