Investigation underway after pair of suspects rob elderly woman at Whittier home

CBS News Los Angeles

Authorities were searching for at least two suspects after an elderly woman was robbed at her home in Whittier early Thursday morning.

The home-invasion robbery reportedly occurred at around 12:30 a.m. at a residence on Spy Glass Hill Road, when a pair of suspects entered the woman's home after shattering the sliding glass door in the rear of the home before stealing several items, including jewelry.

One of the suspects is said to have held the 81-year-old woman's mouth shut as the other ransacked the home.

"The victim immediately tried screaming; however, one of the suspects covered her mouth with his hand while the second suspect ransacked her bedroom and stole miscellaneous jewelry valued at $100,000," said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputy Grace Medrano

LASD investigators believe that the woman was home alone at the time of the incident, and were unsure if the theft included any currency.

They also noted that no weapons were believed to be used, per the victim.

She also detailed that she believed to have heard a vehicle speeding away from her home as the suspects fled from the scene before law enforcement arrived.

The woman, reportedly in her early 80s, was uninjured in the incident, though according to her family she was noticeably shaken up.

One suspect has been described as around 6-feet, 2-inches tall with a heavyset build. A description for the second suspect was unavailable.

Anyone with information on the robbery was asked to contact LASD Detective Balderrama and Detective Yzabal at 562-522-2707
