Inmate Found Week After Authorities Say He Escaped LA County Fire Camp

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities have captured a prison inmate a week after they say he walked away from a fire camp in Los Angeles County.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation says in a statement Wednesday that 24-year-old Jesse Diaz was found at a house in Indio in his native Riverside County on Tuesday night. A tip from a friend led agents to the house.

On Sept. 22, Diaz disappeared late in the evening from the camp in Sylmar, authorities said.

Patterson says Diaz was assigned to the camp during a four-year sentence after being convicted of evading police.
