Blood Drive Held For Injured LAPD Motorcycle Officer

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A blood driver was held Monday for a veteran Los Angeles Police Department motorcycle officer who remained in a medically-induced coma after he was hit by an alleged DUI driver.

"I'm a firefighter . . . but we're all the same, LAFD, LAPD and I'm here because I want to help out another brother," one man said.

The unidentified officer was injured in a traffic accident Saturday evening in Sun Valley, officials said.

Qaneak Cobb, 33, is accused of driving under the influence of drugs when her SUV hit the officer from behind at a red light.

Cobb, of Pacoima, was arrested at the scene and was being held on $185,000 bail.

The officer, a father and 26-year veteran of the force, has undergone two surgeries since the crash, with another expected Monday at Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills.

"He's a good family man, just a great guy, well liked my everyone," said one man who donated blood.

Monday's drive was held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with wait times of up to two hours due to the high turnout.

Another blood drive will be held on Wednesday, April 16, at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
