Inglewood's Mayor Details How Rams Deal Got Done
LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles Rams owner Stan Kroenke is an unassuming guy who Inglewood Mayor James Butts says he had an immediate rapport with when the two met to discuss a plan to bring the team to the city.
"We don't pay anything until we get $25 million, and they get paid back with money we never would have had," the mayor said, explaining how the financial part of the deal worked out. "This is real, and it's happening," he said.
But before Inglewood, the Rams will be back at the Coliseum for the next three seasons.
Each year will bring millions of dollars into the city and the county, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said. "The Rams is a gift that will keep giving over and over again."
Along with the Inglewood stadium is a massive real-estate development set to open in September 2019. And while some construction is under way, the groundbreaking ceremony for the stadium itself will be in August.
Butts already has a theme for the new Inglewood, as he calls it. "The only thing that's changed is everything," Butts said.
