In-N-Out Commits To Big Change In Meat For Its Burgers

IRVINE (CBSLA.com) — Iconic Southern California chain In-N-Out Burger will end the use of beef raised with antibiotics, the company said in a statement.

Known for using fresh meat and produce in its classic hamburger and Double-Double for more than 60 years, In-N-Out "is committed to beef that is not raised with antibiotics important to human medicine, and we've asked our suppliers to accelerate their progress towards establishing antibiotic alternatives," vice president for quality Keith Brazeau said in an emailed statement to Reuters news service.

The company did not offer a timeline for when the change would be complete.

Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill last year that set the country's strictest government standards for the use of antibiotics in the production of livestock, the news service reported. The law goes into effect Jan. 1, 2018, and will restrict the use of antibiotics for disease prevention and ban the use of antibiotics to increase meat production.
