IMAX Enters Into Fitness Market By Offering Cycling Class

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — IMAX wants to capitalize on the growing popularity of group cycling classes by offering a workout experience unlike any other.

In a new feature called IMAXShift, the large-format film company announced plans Monday to open a studio in New York City later this month.

According to the company's website, they plan to take riders on a journey that will take participants "through the solar system, soar over the coasts of Hawaii, or pedal to the beat with music reactive visuals."

The technology behind the workout allows the cycling enthusiast to enjoy the "IMAX Experience" while working out.

Spin classes will hold around 50 riders and will last about 45 minutes. Riders can go online to book a spot in one of the first classes in a pre-sale ranging from $31 to $1,300 in price. Multi-class packages are also being offered at a slight discount.

While there are no current plans for a location in Southern California, the company says it has plans to license the studio for expansion if the concept proves successful in their Brooklyn location.

IMAXShift is set to open April 28.
