Iconic Hollywood Restaurant Yamashiro Might Be Evicted In Pricey Rent Dispute

HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) —  The owner of landmark Japanese eatery Yamashiro -- Thomas Y. Glover -- says his landlord is threatening to evict him.

Yamashiro says a Chinese hotel chain -- the JE Group -- is giving them the boot after raising the monthly rent to $100,000. Last month, JE Group paid $40 million for the property the restaurant sits on.

Glover, 76, told the LA Times that negotiations for a new lease have broken down.

"We certainly has hoped [to stay], but what they are were asking for rent was impossible," Glover told the Times.

The iconic family owned (since 1948) restaurant is known as much for its hilltop location, sweeping views of the city as it is for its food.

Eviction is scheduled for April 28, the Times says.

JE Group said they would likely put a new, more upscale restaurant in Yamashiro's place.
