Fatal crash shuts down I-5 Freeway for hours in Sun Valley

All southbound lanes of the I-5  Freeway were blocked just north of the 170 Freeway in Sun Valley due to a fatal traffic collision for hours Friday morning.  The crash occurred at approximately 5:20 a.m. Lanes were re-opened by 11 a.m.

Two people were confirmed dead at the scene.  

A van reportedly stalled in lanes when a tractor-trailer struck the vehicle. The van was engulfed in flames and two people inside were killed. A third vehicle was also involved.

A male and female were killed in the crash, but they were not immediately identified. The van was a transportation vehicle for Access Services.

Southbound traffic on the 5 was being diverted to the 170.
