Hundreds Evacuated From Building, 8 Hospitalized For Reactions To Chemical

POMONA, Calif. (AP) — Authorities have evacuated hundreds of people from a Pomona office building and taken eight to the hospital after a chemical made people cough and their eyes water.

Los Angeles County fire Capt. Tom Richards says complaints sent firefighters to the five-story Verizon building shortly before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

He says investigators determined that the irritation was from an adhesive remover.

About 300 people were evacuated from the building, which remains closed.

Richards says eight people were taken to the hospital after complaining of breathing problems and hives.
