Human Skull Found Along River Bottom In Riverside

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — A human skull was found along the Santa Ana River bottom in Riverside.

Officers Monday responded to reports that a body part had been discovered at Anza Narrows Park on Jurupa Avenue.

A transient had apparently found the skull weeks ago, but didn't call authorities.

The man then gave the remains to an acquaintance, who contacted police, according to Sgt. David Amador.

"A search was conducted in coordination with the (Riverside County) coroner's office and assistance from the sheriff's Search and Rescue Unit," Amador said. "Several dogs were brought in to search the area for additional body parts. None were located."

Amador said an initial examination of the skull showed that it had been on the river bottom for years.

The sex and the age of the victim have not been determined.

Anyone with information was asked to contact Det. Jim Brandt at (951) 353-7137 or Det. Jim Simons at (951) 353-7138.
