Body Of Man Found Near Shore In Playa Del Rey

PLAYA DEL REY (CBSLA.com)  —  Authorities said a male body washed up on the shore near Playa del Rey.

The body was found in the 6200 block of Pacific Avenue  just after 7 p.m, Sunday, officials said.

LA County Fire said lifeguards were on scene awaiting the arrival of LA Sheriff's Department homicide detectives.

KCAL9's Cristy Fajardo said investigators don't know how the person died and did not give an age range.

Late Sunday, investigators did say the body was that of a male.

Fishermen she spoke to said they overheard that a lifeguard found a body floating near rocks at Ballona Creek.

Homicide detectives were hoping to find clues near the scene to help them identify the remains so the coroner could, in turn, tell loved ones about the unidentified male.

It was unclear what level of decomposition the body had. After the body was found, investigators originally described the find as "remains" but later indicated that a found "body" was more accurate.
