Human Remains Found At Pine Fire Site Not Linked To The Blaze

GORMAN (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Detectives said Sunday that the human remains found near the site of the Pine Fire in Gorman are not related to the blaze.

Human remains were found in a ravine near Highway 138 and Old Ridge Route Road Saturday. A brush fire there Friday (and fully contained Sunday) led some to speculate the fire might have been set to cover up a homicide.

Personnel with the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner recovered the skeletal remains of what is believed to have been a male adult on Sunday.

Based on evidence recovered from the scene, detectives have determined the victim did not die as a result of the Pine fire. And while detectives do believe foul play was involved, they said the victim's body had been at the location for an extended period of time, possibly up to four years.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner will attempt to identify the remains and the cause of death at a later time.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
