House Fire Kills Man, 2 Dogs In Adelanto

ADELANTO (CBSLA.com) — Arson teams Monday were trying to determine the cause of a San Bernardino County house fire that killed one person and two pets.

The fire was reported just before 3 a.m. at a home in the 11500 block of Villa Street in Adelanto, the fire department said.

When units arrived on scene, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the approximately 1,900-square-foot home.

"Fire resources on scene were able to confine the fire mainly to a front bedroom, although the home suffered major smoke and heat damage throughout," Cpt. Jay Hausman said.

Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters found the bodies of a man and two dogs.

Through a translator, a woman who lives in the area described to KCAL9's Tom Wait the frantic moments as neighbors saw the fire burning and rushed to the home to try and save anyone inside.

"There was already a neighbor here banging on the garage door. Nobody was coming out," the woman said.

Firefighters spent the day sifting through ruins. Damage was estimated at $100,000.

No firefighters were injured.

Police have not released the name of the victim.
