Police searching for driver who ran over, killed person in Hollywood

Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision in Hollywood after a person was dead in the street. 

Los Angeles Police Department officers were initially dispatched to the scene on Sunset Boulevard and McCadden Place at around 8:45 p.m. after receiving reports that a person had been struck by a vehicle. 

When officers initially arrived they believed the victim had been shot to death. However, after further investigation, they determined the victim had been run over and killed.

According to police, a driver of an Audi S5 had hit the victim shortly before calling the police. The driver inexplicably drove away after the police arrived. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe alcohol and/or drugs may have contributed to the crash. 

There was no suspect information immediately available.
