Homeland Security Secretary Johnson Visits LAX

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson began a two-day tour of Los Angeles' most critical facilities with a visit to Los Angeles International Airport Thursday.

Johnson - who was sworn in as the fourth DHS Secretary in December - stopped by LAX and answered questions about the Nov. 1 shooting rampage that killed TSA Officer Gerardo Hernandez and wounded two others.

Johnson also addressed concerns about TSA's recent shoe bomb advisory.

Johnson is also scheduled to visit the Joint Regional Intelligence Center in Los Angeles and meet with law enforcement partners, officials said.

L.A Mayor Eric Garcetti will meet with Johnson and U.S. Coast Guard officers and Customs and Border Protection officials at the Los Angeles-Long Beach port complex in Friday, according to officials.

His visit comes amid warnings of a "renewed threat stream" - though not a new threat - about terrorists attempting to carry explosives in shoes, officials told CBS News.
