Home-Shopping Network Dedicated To Guns Makes Debut
COACHELLA VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — A new network dedicated to gun shopping was expected to make its debut Thursday.
GunTV, a home shopping network produced in Southern California, was co-founded by Valerie Castle.
"You can call our toll-free number and speak to one of our customer-experienced representatives. They're going to take your order. They're gonna ask you for your zip code," Castle said in a broadcast.
After receiving a call, GunTV representatives will place the customer's order with a distributor, who then sends the gun to the shopper's nearest licensed dealer for buyer pick-up.
Once at the gun dealer, the gun buyer has to fill out several forms and then in California wait 10 days before taking the gun home.
"I think the advantage of having this TV show is they are gonna show about the product," said Vince Torres, a gun shop owner.
Torres owns Bullseye Sport in Riverside and likes that GunTV will focus on gun safety.
Others, though, are quick to shoot down the show, citing recent shootings.
"We have enough gun problems around here," said Mike McCarroll. "That's all I can say."
Mike Conway, a firearms instructor, wants people to understand that a gun purchased on TV cannot be shipped to the buyer's home.
"You can't do that, not legally anyway," he said. "If you don't do it through a dealer it's a felony for both parties: the seller and the buyer."
The show debuts Thursday night on TV and also online.
