Stars Hit Red Carpet At 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' World Premiere

HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Stars hit the red carpet Monday for the world premiere of the much-anticipated movie - "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

A half-mile section of Hollywood Boulevard was closed to traffic, and a giant tent lined four blocks of the famous thoroughfare for the film screened in three separate theaters: the Dolby, Chinese and El Capitan. Inside of the tent resembled a galaxy far, far away.

Among the cast members turned out Monday night for what might have been Hollywood's biggest movie premiere ever were Harrison Ford, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega. Even characters, including R2-D2 and C-3PO, from the original Star Wars movie came out.

Ridley said she had seen the movie before Monday's premiere, but it was a blur. So she was excited to see it again. She said she cried after seeing the film the first time.

"I'm feeling incredibly excited. I'm feeling grateful that every one is here - friends, family, fans of the movie and a lot of people who worked on the film," said director J.J. Abrams.

"Finn plays a major part in this movie and is a character that we haven't really discovered yet as he is a stormtrooper. And we really haven't gotten into the individuality of stormtroopers," Boyega said. "So for me, this is special moment to be introduced to the world to Finn."

The plot of the film is set about 30 years after the events of "Return of the Jedi."

Some die-hard fans have braved the rain, cold and wind for almost two weeks camping out outside the TCL Chinese Theatre for a chance to be one of the first to see the movie when it opens on Thursday.
