Hiker Who Collapsed, Died In Franklin Canyon Identified As Immigration Attorney

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities were working Monday to determine the cause of death for a prominent immigration attorney who collapsed while hiking in Franklin Canyon Park.

An autopsy is pending to determine cause of death for Ralph Ehrenpreis, 72, of Beverly Hills, coroner's Lt. Larry Dietz said.

There were no immediate indications that Ehrenpreis met with foul play, Los Angeles Fire spokesman Brian Humphrey said.

Firefighters were sent to the Franklin Canyon area, near the Hollywood Hills, about 4:30 p.m. Saturday to a call of a man down with CPR in progress off Franklin Canyon Drive, Humphrey said. Ehrenpreis was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police and a representative from the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy also responded to the scene.

According to the website of Ralph Ehrenpreis, a professional law corporation, the firm is one of the oldest in California practicing exclusively in immigration and nationality law.
