High Surf, Rip Currents Expected At Los Angeles County Beaches
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Beachgoers are warned of powerful surf and dangerous rip currents that will hit the Southern California coast amid a warming trend.
The National Weather Service said Friday that waves up to 8 feet will pound west-facing beaches for most of the day.
A high surf advisory is in effect in Los Angeles County, while a less serious beach hazards statement has been issued to the south in Orange County.
Swimmers and surfers are urged to avoid the water and beachgoers are warned to stay off rock jetties.
Meanwhile temperatures have begun to inch up, after the latest winter storm moved through. Highs in the upper 60s and low 70s are expected across greater Los Angeles.
Santa Ana winds are expected to return on Monday, with temperatures next week moving into the 80s.
