High Surf Along Coast Closes Ventura Pier

VENTURA (CBSLA.com) — High surf was causing some problems along the coast in the city of Ventura, authorities said Friday.

A pylon that supports the Ventura Pier reportedly snapped about 3:30 p.m., forcing its closure, according to police.

"You can see some of the erosion on the sand," reported Sky2's Stu Mundel. "Those high dips out right there are caused by recent high waves."

Authorities report that restaurants and shops leading to the pier's gate are expected to remain open.

No injuries were reported.

Officials planned to reevaluate the pier's condition on Saturday.
