Helpful Husband Misses Out On Major Powerball Win But Pockets $1M Anyway

PARAMOUNT (CBSLA.com)  —  A Paramount man -- doing a favor for his wife -- went to check her Powerball numbers when the jackpot hit $500 million before climbing to the record $1.586 billion.

Sigh. Robert Mendoza's wife didn't win anything. So he decided to buy a couple of scratchers after checking her losing numbers

He told lottery officials he purchased a $10 Silver & Gold Scratcher that turned out to be worth #1 million.

His wife always purchases her tickets at the local CVS Pharmacy. He decided to try his luck at another CVS.   The winning ticket was sold at the CVS located at 8859 Alondra Boulevard in Paramount.

Mendoza told officials he is a long-time Lottery player and says his dream is to pay off his house, fix it up and retire.
