Heart Attack Survivor Reunites With People Who Helped Save His Life
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) —A 78-year-old man who survived a heart attack he suffered outside the El Capitan theater in Hollywood was reunited on Wednesday with the people who sprang into action to help save his life.
Steven Shaw collapsed outside of the ticket window of the theater in December while he and his wife were asking for directions.
"He just went down like a tree," Shaw's wife, Diana Kerew Shaw, said.
The manager of the theater, Michael Bindy, sprang into action, administering CPR while Stella Teachout, an off-duty nurse from Azusa, helped operate a heart defibrillator.
Paramedics arrived to escort Shaw to the hospital, where he began his path to recovery.
An ER doctor told KCAL9's Amber Lee that the citizen-administered CPR helped save Shaw's life.
They all came together Wednesday for an emotional reunion.
"The fact that I'm feeling makes me feel good," Shaw said.3380085
