Health Officials Warn Of 2 'Invasive' Mosquitoes That Can Transmit Infectious Diseases

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Public health officials are urging residents to protect themselves from two mosquitoes they have described as "invasive."

The California Department of Public Health says the mosquito species were recently found in the state and can transmit diseases like yellow fever, dengue fever, and chikungunya.

Authorities say the mosquitoes have been brought over from overseas.

County officials say they are unusually aggressive and will bite during the daytime even going so far as to follow people into their cars and buildings.

It's believed the drought may be helping these foreign mosquitoes breed.
