Health Officials Confirm Typhus Fever Case In Manhattan Beach

MANHATTAN BEACH (CBSLA.com) – A case of endemic typhus fever has been reported in Manhattan Beach, authorities announced Thursday.

The illness was confirmed in a neighborhood near Polliwog Park, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

Residents were asked to practice safe flea control and eliminate all food sources when coming in contact with wildlife, feral cats, stray dogs or free-roaming pets.

"This disease is readily treatable with the appropriate antibiotic therapy," the department said in a statement.
