Hang Glider, 59, Found Dead Near Sylmar

SYLMAR (CBSLA.com) —    A 59-year-old hang glider was found dead  -- possibly as a result of a crash--  in the Kagel Canyon area above Sylmar Saturday.

Authorities said the unidentified man was with four other hang gliders who all jumped from a mountain summit named Hang Glider Point, also known as Kagel Mountain Peak.

The deceased failed to show up further down the mountain at a pre-determined meeting point, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Bill Jaeger.

Officials were called around 6:20 p.m. to help look for the missing hang glider.

Authorities said they found the glider and the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene.It was unclear if the man died as the result of a crash or a health issue.

His name was withheld until his next of kin could be notified.
