Gwyneth Paltrow Stung By Bees Intentionally

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Gwyneth Paltrow said she is willing to feel a lot of pain in the name of beauty.

In an interview with the New York Times, the 43-year-old Academy Award winner admitted that she had been stung by bees on purpose.

She told the newspaper: "I'm open to anything. I've been stung by bees. It's a thousands of years old treatment called apitherapy. People use it to get rid of inflammation and scarring. It's actually pretty incredible if you research it. But, man, it's painful."

Apitherapy is the medicinal use of products made by honeybees. They include bee venom, beeswax, honey and royal jelly.

Bee-venom therapy was practiced in ancient Egypt, Greece and China, according to apitherapy.org.

Some of the conditions treated are arthritis, burns, infections, gout, pain, gout, shingles and tendonitis, the website said.

Paltrow, who has her own skincare line called Goop, said she does not like to wear much makeup.
