Woman Escapes Serious Injury After Gunman Opens Fire In Mid-City

MID-CITY (CBSLA.com) – Police are searching for a gunman who shot a woman in the Mid-City neighborhood of Los Angeles Saturday morning.

According to Los Angeles police, at about 3 a.m., as many as eight gunshots were fired in the direction of a home in the 1800 block of Alsace Avenue. Officers arrived to find a woman in her 20s with graze wounds. She was taken to Cedar-Sinai Medical Center in stable condition.

Officials told KCAL 9's Laurie Perez the victim was lucky to be alive after the unknown suspect sprayed her house with gunfire.

She also spoke to scared neighbors who said they woke up terrified and will go to bed the same way.

"I was sleeping," said one neighbor, "and all of a sudden, just heard gunfire."

Many couldn't say exactly how many shots they heard.

"I heard about seven shots," said John Church.

Investigators do not have a suspect or motive at this time, police said.

Officials said as many as five of the bullets grazed the victim.

"I've been on this street for 20 years," said Beverly Phillips, "It's mostly senior citizens and really no young people, just older people. So when that happened it kinda shocked me."

Police said the victim remains in stable condition as of 10 p.m. Saturday.
