Guest Speaker Of Financial Planning Seminar Arrested In Downey

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Saturday arrested a certified financial advisor in connection with charges of financial abuse of the elderly.

Jose Carbajal was a guest speaker at a financial planning seminar in Downey that had six attendees at the time of his arrest.

He was booked into the Lakewood Sheriff's Station in lieu of $325,000 bail.

Authorities reportedly identified Carbajal as a suspect after an elderly woman contacted deputies after receiving a hefty tax bill from the IRS back in August of 2013.

"The elderly woman learned from the IRS that the tax bill resulted from a large monetary transfer associated with her investment account, which was managed by Carbajal," according to a written statement issued by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Other alleged victims of Carbajal were subsequently identified, according to authorities.
