Granada Hills Charter High's Wins State Decathlon With Record-Setting Score
SACRAMENTO (CBSLA.com) — Granada Hills Charter High School has again won first place at this weekend's California Academic Decathlon in Sacramento, its fifth state championship since 2011.
The nine-member team will go on to represent California at the 34th annual United States Academic Decathlon Competition next month in Alaska.
Granada Hills Charter's score of 61,149.6 out of a possible 65,400 was the highest team score ever in the history of the Academic Decathlon, including the nationals, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.
Southern California schools fared well at this year's state competition. Granada Hills Charter was followed by LAUSD's Franklin, Marshall and El Camino Real Charter high schools in second, third and fourth place. South Pasadena High School and West Covina's Edgewood High School took fifth and sixth place. Garfield High School, also an LAUSD school, placed seventh, while West High School in Torrance and Canyon High School in Anaheim rounded eighth and ninth place.
University High School in Fresno rounded out the top 10.
