The win marks a continuing winning streak for the school, which previously won the state and national decathlons from 2011-2013 and 2015.

The nine-student team will now go on to represent California at the national Academic Decathlon competition in Anchorage, Alaska next month.

Members of the winning team include students Aishah Mahmud, Joshua Lin, Melissa Santos, Isha Gupta, Jorge Zepeda, Mark Aguila, Mayeena Ulkarim, Christopher Lo and Julian Duran.

"Congratulations to the students and coaches at Granada Hills Charter High School," said Board member Scott M. Schmerelson.

"It is so very inspiring that Academic Decathlon teams from the West Valley continue a tradition of academic excellence and achievement," Schmerelson said, adding "We are extremely proud of our students who, year-after-year, embody the spirit of hard work and distinguish themselves as true champions."
