Good Samaritan Rescues Jogger From Attempted Kidnapping In Whittier

WHITTIER (CBSLA.com) — A 21-year-old man was in custody Tuesday for allegedly attempting to kidnap a woman in Whittier.

Around 9:10 p.m. Monday, a woman was jogging on a sidewalk located in the 15900 block of Whittier Boulevard, when a male suspect -- later identified as Christian Moreno, of La Habra -- allegedly grabbed her.

According to the Whittier Police Department, a good Samaritan came to the victim's aid, and chased Moreno away on foot.

"During the struggle, the victim sustained minor scrapes and bruises as they both fell to the ground," said Officer John Scoggins.

Police said Moreno was located during a search of the area, and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of attempted kidnapping.

He is being held on $1 million, and is expected to appear in court on Wednesday in Bellflower.

Anyone who may have been similarly victimized, or has information regarding this case, is urged to contact the Whittier Police Department at (562) 567-9270.
