Glendora Residents Brace For Mudslides, Prepare For Expected Rain Storms

GLENDORA (CBSLA.com) — Thousands of sand bags were prepared Sunday for residents in preparation of rainstorms in the forecast this week.

KCAL9's Joy Benedict spoke with officials at the city yard, where residents can pick up the bags to attempt to divert any water and save their property during the upcoming storms.

Officials explained a neighborhood was covered with mud more than just one week ago, urging many in the area to brace for potential mudslides during flash flooding.

Benedict reported one pallet of sang bags has already been picked up by residents, and just over three pallets remain for pick up today.

In January 2013, the Colby fire destroyed about 1,700-acres of brush in the San Gabriel Mountains, just above the Glendora community.

In response, officials placed k-rails and sand bagging in an effort to prevent future debris from traveling down the hillside and destroying homes.

In total, about 3,000 sang bags have been filled for the community.

Residents are allowed to take up to 25 sand bags per household.

Public works officials said they will continue to check the stock periodically, and will restock the supply as needed.
